Maggie Hunt, Barbara Keller, and Gloria Ross of Weston; Bredt Handy and Sharon Weil Hornstein of Wayland; Molly Gayley and Nancy Leigh Thompson of Lincoln; Kathy DeFlice-Secor of Bedford; and Rena Shear of Framingham all met over time in DaCosta Ahernβs class, The Thinking Hand at the deCordova Museum School. They continue to work with Elizabeth, meeting seasonally on Tuesday mornings in studio space at the Ryan Estate in Lincoln.
Painting together has had a profound impact on the artists in this exhibit. For each of them, being part of this dynamic group strengthens their work as individual painters. They feed off each otherβs energy, knowledge, discoveries, mistakes, and successes. Yet each artist approaches her work differently, has her own unique imagery, and creates paintings in her own distinctive style.

In preparation for this exhibit, and to demonstrate their varied ways of thinking, they gave themselves a common challenge to create an 18 x 18β painting using a limited palette of black, white, and one color of their choice. A grid of these paintings greets visitors as they enter the first room of the exhibit space, introducing the viewer to the diverse approaches represented in the rest of the exhibit.
The exhibit will be in the Gallery and the Community Room until Sunday, October 19, 2014.

3:00 PM CONCERT: DOUBLE-NECK GUITAR PERFORMANCE
Guitarist Ian Ethan intrigued and entertained his Weston Library audience two and a half years ago with a performance on his 18-string acoustic double-neck guitar, and the Music Committee is delighted to welcome him back. Ian has been performing in small listening venues around the country for over six years and is increasingly gaining recognition for both his unique instrumental compositions and for the highly original playing methods that are required to perform them. He is one of only about five musicians worldwide to tackle the double-neck guitar in earnest, and his programs have been featured in places as varied as βAll-Star Guitar Nightβ in Anaheim, California and Bostonβs Museum of Science Planetarium. Youβll be amazed as Ian βrambunctiously weaves between fretboards, slapping and tapping the sounds of the guitar to lifeβ¦in a style youβve likely never seen beforeβ (Port Orchard Independent). Learn more at his website: http://www.ianethan.com/home.html.
The concert is free and open to the public, and the Community Room is handicapped accessible.
