WESTON, MA β€” The Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus will perform on Season 5 of Sing That Thing! this Friday, May 10 at 8 p.m. on WGBH 2. Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus is based at the First Parish Church in Weston.

The Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus is now in its 28th season of celebrating the sonority and tradition of male choral singing. Although officially formed in 1991, the group has its roots back in the 19th century at Harvard Medical School when the idea behind Saengerfests (β€œSinging Festivals” in Germany) was brought to the U.S. by Scandinavian and German immigrants. The Boston Saengerfest Men’s Chorus honors Welsh traditions by singing a mixture of classical, opera, hymn and folk songs. They have sung regularly for naturalization ceremonies at Faneuil Hall and in support of charity events around New England.

Sing That Thing! is WGBH's televised singing competition that celebrates the joy and diversity of choral music. Eighteen ensembles representing genres from barbershop and pop to gospel and classical compete across eight episodes in three age-based divisions. The coaches will select two groups from each division to perform on the Grand Finale, when one group will be named the overall champion.
