Weston Coronavirus: Cases Rise To 62

Health officials in town are monitoring 184 residents for symptoms.

WESTON, MA β€” Weston reported 62 positive cases of the new coronavirus in town. Health officials in town are monitoring 184 residents for symptoms. The Weston Emergency Reserve Corps, Weston School nurses and Weston’s Health Department are following all positive cases in town.

In a notice to the community, the town stressed the importance of social distancing. "Weston is not a big town, so we all need to work together and be even more vigilant about staying at home and practicing physical distancing and increased hygiene in order to reduce the spread," the town said.

Only essential Weston government operations are in place and two major Town projects that are continuing under approved conditions. Weston's Emergency Reserve Corps (WERC) is seeking volunteers to help the community respond to the coronavirus crisis.

Gov. Charlie Baker said Wednesday the state "is still on the upward slope of this pandemic." Across the state, there has been a total of 503 deaths and 18,941 cases.

On Thursday, Gov. Charlie Baker signed three executive orders aimed at expanding the state's health care capacity. One order will allow for an easier transition for foreign-educated doctors to get licensed in Massachusetts, another will allow nursing school graduates and students in their last semester without licenses to practice under supervision and the third requires insurers to cover medical costs during the treatment of the coronavirus at out-of-network hospitals.
