
WESTON, MA β A Weston native just got one step closer to The Show. Justin Bellinger, a first baseman from Duke University, was selected by the Cincinnati Reds as the 647th overall pick in the 22nd round of the MLB draft. The junior was a career .259 hitter with 10 home runs, 67 RBIs, 99 hits and 53 runs. He played in 122 games for the Blue Devils.
In 22 starts at first base last season, Bellinger boasted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He was named the No. 35 ACC prospect in 2017 by D1baseball.com and the No. 27 first baseman in the publication's preseason power rankings.
Bellinger was originally drafted out of high school by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 11th round and played three summers in the Coastal Plain League.
