Weston Player Nominated to Play in McDonald's All American Game

The Weston player was one of 760 nominees across the country.

WESTON, MAβ€”A Weston basketball player is one step closer to being able to show her skills on a national stage.

Julia Thissell of the Rivers School has been nominated to play in the 2016 McDonald’s All American Games, according to a press release from the event. Thissell is one of four players nominated from the Commonwealth and one of 760 players nominated nationally.

Thissell still has to be named to the final roster of 24 girls who will be officially selected to play in the game. The selections will be made on Jan. 17 at 10:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

β€œβ€œThese student-athletes display remarkable dedication and commitment to the game and they also set an amazing example by working hard during their time off the court by giving back to their schools and the community. It’s an honor to have these players’ talent’s recognized at the national level and we are proud to have them representing us as nominees for the 2016 McDonald’s All American Games,” said Nicole DiNoia Garvey, the communications manager for McDonald’s Boston region, in a statement.

The event benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities. $11 million has been raised by the event since 1978. The girl’s game will tip-off on March 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the United Center in Chicago, with the boy’s game tipping off at 8 p.m.
