What is a CSA share and why is it beneficial?

Weekly veggie shares from Land's Sake in Weston benefit you, your local farm, and the environment.

A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) share brings delicious, locally-grown produce into your home weekly throughout the summer and fall. A Land’s Sake CSA share benefits you, your local farm, and the environment – a win-win-win! Fresh, local veggies have better flavor and are more nutrient-rich, usually finding its way to your kitchen within a day of being picked. Land’s Sake benefits by getting to know who we grow for, and getting early cash flow that helps us plan for the season. Finally, a CSA benefits the environment and future generations by lowering food miles – pickups on the same land that the food was grown mean less CO2 emissions. Land’s Sake uses sustainable methods to help the soil remain productive for generations to come, using organic fertilizers, healthy nutrient cycling, and crop rotation.

At Land’s Sake, the CSA is different from the average pre-boxed share. Our weekly CSA distributions are market style, meaning that you get to walk around the CSA tent and choose what you’d like each week. Our CSA shareholders also get free access to our Pick Your Own fields – including flowers, herbs, and veggies. Being a CSA member brings you to the farm each week, the perfect way for you and your family to enjoy the fresh air and recharge while getting to know the farmers that have grown your food. Paying for the whole season up front may seem expensive, but it breaks down to about $35 per week for a full share and $22 per week for a small share.

In addition to CSA shares, Land’s Sake offers Membership, education programs for all ages, and a Farmstand that is open to all June-October. Land’s Sake Members receive discounts on education programs and select event tickets, and will be invited to a brand new Members-Only Event on the farm this summer.
