Paul B. Landrum appeared in U.S. District Court in Boston Friday morning.

BOSTON, MA — A Boston man charged with attempting to rob or robbing multiple banks will remain in federal custody.
Paul B. Landrum, dubbed the “Route 128 bandit,” appeared in U.S. District Court in Boston Friday for his initial hearing. He faces a charge bank robbery. During the hearing, he agreed to voluntary detention and will remain in the custody of the US Marshals.
Authorities say Landrum is responsible for nine bank robberies that took place in Greater Boston. In each case, witnesses described the suspect as a 30-45-year-old light-skinned black or Hispanic male wearing a baseball hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeved collarless shirt. Based on the descriptive similarities at each bank, law enforcement suspected that the same individual was involved in each robbery.
