Obituary: John J. Walsh, 93, of West Roxbury

He passed away on Nov. 11, surrounded by his family.

John J., Walsh 93, of Norwood, and formerly of West Roxbury, passed away on Nov. 11, 2014. He was surrounded by his family.

Born in Boston on May 25, 1921, he was the son of the late John J. and Anna (Flavin) Walsh. He held a B.A. from Boston College and served in the Navy during WWII. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 40 years. After his retirement, he worked for Emmanuel College in Boston.

John was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Walsh) Walsh; the loving father of Rosemary and her husband, Peter Spaeth of Newton, Jeanne and her husband, Felix Perriello of Norwood, and John P. Walsh and his wife, Susan of Princeton; the cherished grandfather of Ben, Caroline and James Spaeth, Anthony and Christopher Perriello and Betsy and Ella Walsh; the dear brother of the late Lorraine Coleman and Daniel Walsh, and the uncle of several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Nov. 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa of Avila Parish, on 10 St. Theresa Ave. in West Roxbury. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, also in West Roxbury. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Pine Street Inn, on 444 Harrison Ave. in Boston.
