Teen Charged With Bringing Gun To West Roxbury School

A teenager was taken into police custody Friday after bringing a gun to a high school in West Roxbury.

WEST ROXBURY, MA — A teenager was taken into police custody Friday after bringing a gun to a West Roxbury School, police confirmed.

At about 11:15 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a call to assist school police officers at the West Roxbury Academy on VFW Parkway. At the scene, officers were told that a student may have been in possession of a firearm. The school administrators immediately contacted the Boston School Police who in turn contacted the Boston Police Department, police said.

The officers were quickly able to stop the student and recover the loaded handgun from the student's backpack.

The 16-year-old girl was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm.

Due to the suspect's age it is likely that more information will not be released and she will appear in juvenile court, where proceedings are usually held behind closed doors and documents are not available to the public.
