Despite COVID-19, Deerfield's 5th-Grade Service Project A Success
The students distributed more than fifty backpacks containing over $3000 of school supplies to Schools on Wheels Massachusetts.

Barely two weeks before Westwood Public Schools closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Westwood Patch told its readers about Deerfield Elementary's fifth graders' service projectcollecting school supplies and filling backpacks for Schools on Wheels Massachusetts (SoWMA). The project was able to distribute more than fifty backpacks of school supplies to SoWMA, filled with over $3000 in school supplies. Donations came in from Deerfield, elsewhere in Westwood, and throughout the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Service project coordinator Treacy Kiley offers thanks to all who donated. The donation to School on Wheels Massachusetts came at a critical time when demand for their service is higher than ever; however, many Spring service projects at other locations did not materialize due to school closures.
If you are looking for an opportunity for your children to do over the summer, getting involved with community service could be a great way for families to engage in some meaningful activities together.
