First Parish Church Hosting Pumpkins With A Purpose This Weekend

Westwood’s First Parish Church (a United Church of Christ congregation) will be selling pumpkins for its Pumpkins with a Purpose event on Saturday, October 27 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, October 28 from 12pm-5pm. All proceeds from pumpkin sales will benefit First Parish’s Outreach Ministry. The pumpkins come from Wilson Farm in Lexington.

First Parish’s Outreach Ministry benefits multiple nonprofits. “100% of monies raised through pumpkin sales go beyond the walls of the church to support organizations that serve people in need. Over the years, proceeds have gone to some more well-known organizations such as Westwood Food Pantry, The Arc of South Norfolk, Pine Street Inn, [and] Rosie’s Place.First Parish also supports Common Cathedral in Boston, an outreach to homeless individuals in Boston, and Community Chaplaincy, which engages in ministry with underserved people in Newton, Wellesley, and the Greater Metro West areas. Pumpkin money also reaches well beyond our area, as we support those affected by natural disaster and help support health care needs for a women’s cooperative in Nicaragua called NicaHandmade/NicaWorks,” says First Parish’s Pastor, Reverend Christopher L. Dodge.

Dodge reports that both First Parish Parishioners and non-parishioners attend this event “While most parishioners buy their pumpkins at the church, the majority of our shoppers come from Westwood and surrounding communities. Many of the people who come in search a pumpkin to decorate their home or carve into a jack-o-lantern for Halloween tell us that they have been coming for years. We are so pleased that this has become a tradition for so many families in our community.”

Pumpkins with a Purpose’s final weekend will be Saturday, October 27 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, October 28 from 12pm-5pm at First Parish Church Westwood at 252 Nahatan Street, Westwood, MA.
