HESSCO To Hold 8th Annual Mick Morgan’s St. Patrick’s 5K

HESSCO Elder Services in Sharon is partnering with Mick Morgan’s Irish Pub for the 8th Annual Mick Morgan’s St. Patrick’s 5K for HESSCO on March 16. This event is HESSCO’s largest fundraiser and coincides with the national March for Meals Campaign. Hundreds of local Meals on Wheels programs across the country to reach out to their communities and build support – a perfect opportunity to shed light on HESSCO’s Nutrition Program. Thanks to about 700 volunteers, HESSCO packages and delivers an average of 130,000 home delivered meals each year, and serves 30,000 meals annually in dining room settings. Volunteer drivers not only deliver a hot, nutritious meal to seniors, but they provide a wellness check and a friendly visit. For many recipients, this is the difference needed to maintain their dignity and independence at home. Westwood is among the towns in HESSCO's catchment area.

Race registration begins at 8:00 AM on the 16th with a 9:00 AM race start. Pre-race day bib, runners’ bag and T-shirt pick-up will take place on Friday March 15th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Long sleeve performance tech T-shirts are included in the registration fee for the first 300 paid registrants and a limited supply of shirts will be available for sale at the event. Registration is available online through March 13th for $30. Runners can create their own fund raising pages to direct their family and friends to donate towards the race. Walk up registrations will be $35.

The race route starts at Mick Morgan’s Irish Pub, route 1 on the Sharon/Walpole line, up Baker Street into Walpole and back to finish at Mick Morgan’s. There will be awards for the best overall male, overall female, fastest boy and girl (under 18), and fastest team. There will also be prizes for festive costumes. Medals will also be awarded to the top three male and female best times in seven different age categories.

This year’s Finish Line Sponsor is Central Auto Team, and Platinum Sponsors are Anodyne Homemaker Services Corp, Dedham Savings, Douglas A. King Builders, Inc., Friendly Care, Inc., Lamar Advertising, Pawtucket Credit Union, Pond Home, Wegmans, WROR, and Zalkin Law Firm, Inc.. Dozens of others have signed on as Gold and Silver Sponsors as well. On race day, many sponsors will be on site with information and giveaways. There will also be raffles, entertainment, refreshments, a photo booth, and an after-party on site.

All proceeds from this race will be used to support HESSCO to continue its mission of supporting elders remain in their homes for as long as possible.
