How Can You Celebrate #NationalIceCreamDay in Westwood?
The third Sunday of July is National Ice Cream Day per Presidential decree in 1984.

It's National Ice Cream Day! I make little secret of the fact that as your mayor, I am not new to this town nor its former ice cream selections: Carvel back when it was at Lambert's Plaza? Yes. Orange Leaf at University Station? Yes. Brigham's and Newport Creamery over where the Toast Office is now? Also yes. And of course, Cafe Diva from back when a place which sold espresso seemed newfangled.
However, that was then and this is 2018. Barring the many ice cream options beyond Westwood's borders, there are two main options to celebrate today: the newcomer Bertie's Creative Creamery, located next to the Islington Post Office, and the classic Bubbling Brook on Rte 109.
Bertie's has a host of flavors of hard and soft serve ice cream, as well as "sherbert," sorbet, and soft serve yogurt. They state on their website that "We make our flavors on site! Our homemade flavors are made with the best ingredients for the rich flavor and creamy texture you’d expect from farm fresh ice cream!...Since we make most of our flavors in store, some flavors and coloring may vary slightly from batch to batch. Don’t worry though, all flavors are true to form and tasty." Bertie's also sells "penny" candy.

Bubbling Brook has been around since 1951, which makes one of the easiest ways to make people grew up here and moved away jealous to geotag your selfies with cone. Bubbling Brook serves hard ice creams, "dairy free sorbet, lactose free soft-serve, and many gluten free ice creams and soft-serves as well." Bubbling Brook also serves food such as clam rolls, hot dogs, and lobster rolls inside.
Which do you prefer and why? Would you consider trying the ice cream shop you do not regularly patronize?
