Kids Raised to Fight Cancer Through Westwood PMC Kids Ride

More Than 300 Young Cyclists Raised Their Kickstands to Fight Cancer on Sunday, June 10th

More than 300 young cyclists raised their kickstands to fight cancer on Sunday, June 10th at the Westwood Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) Kids Ride. Participants ages 4-15 rode one, five and ten-mile routes with the goal of raising $60,000 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and after the ride, families celebrated with refreshments, music, face painting, field games and other activities.

The Westwood ride is just one of more than 35 PMC Kids Rides set to take place throughout New England and beyond in 2018. Last year, the PMC Kids Rides program attracted approximately 4,500 participants and raised more than $850,000 to support cancer care and research at Dana-Farber, which contributed to the PMC’s record-breaking gift of $51 million.

The PMC Kids Rides are spokes in the PMC wheel, joining the more than 6,000 adult PMC cyclists in their mission to fund adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber. The PMC is a two-day, 192-mile bike-a-thon held the first weekend of every August and has raised $598 million since its inception in 1980. PMC Kids Rides offer a way for children to become part of the PMC mission, involving young people in volunteerism and fundraising in a safe and athletic way. Since the first ride in 1998, the PMC Kids Rides program has raised more than $8 million for the PMC.
