Dedham's Legacy Place announces the return of its popular annual outdoor fitness series, Legacy SWEAT. Kicking off today, May 17, and running through September 30, the 2021 series will take place on The Green at Legacy Place (located in front of Kendra Scott and Free People). The expansive 2,000 square foot green is new for the series this year and is the perfect setting for an exciting mix of fitness classes including both a number of new workouts and returning favorites.
New to Legacy SWEAT in 2021 are Zumba Fitness classes with popular area Zumba instructor, Adriana Lopez; HUSTL’d; an exhilarating Bodyweight HIIT class taught by local total body workout expert, Derik Durkin; and Ladies of Legacy: HIIT and Self Defense, a high-intensity interval class with self-defense techniques led by Kristen Oteri, co-owner the family-owned martial arts and fitness studio, The Lab.
This year's Legacy SWEAT also has classes for older adults and seniors presented by the Dedham Council of Aging including Senior Tai Chi with lifelong Tai Chi practitioner and martial arts instructor, Wanda White, and Senior Move and Stretch, a great low-impact, aerobic, flexibility and stretching session led by 20-year veteran group exercise instructor, Nora Brown. Returning to Legacy SWEAT are outdoor classes from property favorite, Pure Barre, and the studio’s rotating all-star instructors.

Each class is about an hour long and set to the rhythm of an energizing playlist personally curated by the SWEAT instructors. Classes will be offered throughout the entire week with morning, daytime, and evening options. All classes are open to the public, but at a limited capacity to keep with state and local safety regulations; participants will also be required to register for classes in advance. All classes will take place on The Green, located in front of Kendra Scott and Free People, across the parking lot from Showcase Cinema de Lux (In the case of inclement weather or extreme heat, classes will take place in the Legacy SWEAT Powered by PNC Bank Indoor Studio. Attendees will be notified of the location change.)
Pure Barre Outdoor Classes
Mondays at 5:30pm
Wednesdays at 7:00pm
Sundays at 9:30am
Pure Barre offers an effective 50 minute total body barre workout focused on low-impact, high-intensity movements that lift and tone muscles to improve strength, agility, and flexibility for every body.
Zumba with Adriana Lopez
Mondays at 7:00pm
This Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, calorie burning dance fitness party features exotic rhythms set to high energy international beats. Zumba mixes low intensity and high intensity moves for an interval style workout that's easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating! Legacy SWEAT’s Zumba instructor Adriana Lopez has been teaching Zumba classes for over 11 years. She brings an encouraging and energetic mindset to each class with the goal of helping others achieve their fitness goals. To her, Zumba is more than just a dance class. It's about connecting people together, building a positive environment, and inspiring people to be the best they can be in all aspects of their life.
Senior Move and Stretch with Nora Brown
Presented by the Dedham Council on Aging
Tuesdays at 9:30am
Senior Move and Stretch is a class for active older adults. Music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s will be played during each class which includes a warm-up/cool-down, low impact aerobics, flexibility and stretching. Participants are encouraged to bring water and wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Senior Move and Stretch is taught by Nora Brown, a certified group exercise instructor with over 20 years teaching experience. Nora will safely lead individuals in exercise activities including cardiovascular exercise and strength training and stretching. Older adult fitness is one of her specialties and she welcomes all ages and skill levels.

Senior Tai Chi with Wanda White
Presented by the Dedham Council on Aging
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30am
This Tai Chi class is designed for senior citizens, with some movements being adapted for easier transitions. The classes help practitioners with balance, muscle control, breathing, circulation, energy and overall wellness. Each class is led by Wanda White, who has practiced the Wu style of Tai Chi Chuan for 44 years. She is a lifelong practitioner and instructor of other martial arts as well, including Hung Gar Kung fu, Kickboxing and Tae Kwon Do.

Ladies of Legacy: HIIT and Self Defense with Kristen Oteri of The Lab
Wednesdays at 5:30pm
This high-intensity interval training session is paired with self-defense techniques for an amazingly fun and efficient workout! Each class will build cardiovascular endurance while strengthening and toning the total body. Participants are guaranteed to leave this class feeling stronger and more confident. Classes are led by Kristen Oteri, co-owner of The Lab, a family-owned martial arts and fitness studio located in Dedham Square. Kristen is also a Registered Nurse Clinical Leader within a local Emergency Department, is the head instructor for the The Lab’s Women’s Self Defense/ Strength Conditioning program and an assistant instructor for the studio’s Children’s Jiu Jitsu program. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 2 years and is a 4 degree Blue Belt.
HUSTL’d – Bodyweight HIIT with Derek Durkin

Bodyweight HIIT is a total body workout using one’s bodyweight to build strength and conditioning. Class will use various workout structures, including AMRAPs and EMOMs. Jumping movements are easily modified to lessen the impact. Derek Durkin, owner of HUSTL’d fitness studio, will lead each class. Derek has been a group fitness instructor in Boston for the past 8 years. Before opening HUSTL’d, he was the lead instructor at Barry's Boston.
