TSWGO is a nonprofit whose mission is “to support families facing childhood cancer, helping to lighten their burden through the giving of financial grants and community involvement.” It was founded in 2011, after the passing of Esther Earl from thyroid cancer at age sixteen. Earl was a Nerdfighter, Harry Potter fan, social justice advocate, and cat lover. She served as partial inspiration
At last year’s Shine Under the Stars, emcee Sorboni Banerjee said “We are taking the most tragic and terrible and turning it into to something wonderful.” This quote sums up TSWGO, which has now grown to include the donor-funded Project LOVEly. Project LOVEly is a grant for youth ages thirteen to thirty to “turn their creative ideas into practical, hands-on actions that reflect advocacy and service, and make the world a better place.” Project LOVEly’s two 2018 winners, Walpole’s Ana Lee Chic Designs and Worcester’s Simon Says Give, will be in attendance at Shine Under the Stars.
