University Station To Hold Chanukah Menorah Lighting December 6

The Chanukah menorah lighting will celebrate the fifth night of the Jewish holiday.

Westwood's University Station will be holding the lighting of its Chanukah menorah on December 6 at 6pm. Representatives from Westwood's Temple Beth David will be in attendance. The menorah is located in the space between Wegman's Grocery Store and Target. Refreshments will be provided.

Chanukah is a Jewish holiday which lasts eight nights, this lighting will occur on the fifth night. It celebrates the time in 168 BCE when a group of Jews in Ancient Greece, the Maccabees, successfully defended their temple from becoming destroyed and celebrated for eight days. The Talmud retold this victory as oil lighting the temple of eight days, and hence the Chanukah tradition of the eight nights and candles was born.
