The Westwood 12U Select Softball Team made a long wait to play pay off, finishing a busy month of August with an 8-3 record as the squad traveled around the state to compete in a series of softball showcases.

Coached by Tom Grandy and competing mostly against club softball teams, Westwood continued to gel and improve as the month progressed. They won over the South Shore Vengeance and Wachusett in Leominster, King Philip in Plainville, plus Swansea and Rehoboth in Somerset.

The team averaged almost 10 runs per game and got consistent solid pitching from righthanders Bridget Mulkeen (4-2) and Mary Stronach (4-1). Mulkeen struck out 48 batters and allowed just five hits in her six starts. Stronach struck out 30 in five starts.
