Westwood Community Trails: A way to see a new part of this town.

Westwood's Richard de Reyna leads this initiative to educate t people about nature in the town.

Since October, the Town of Westwood’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Committee has had a new offshoot: Westwood Community Trails. Led by Westwood resident and former Troop 3 Boy Scout leader Richard de Reyna, Westwood Community Trails is an offshoot of hikes he had led around Hale Reservation previously.

De Reyna’s monthly hikes are located at sites around Westwood: the March 2 one will be at Sen Ki, previous hikes have included Buckmaster Pond and will include Cutler Park. He reports that his intention is to cover many routes in town lands and reservations.

In addition to the monthly hikes, Westwood Community Trails plans on celebrating Earth Day in April by adding a clean-up to its hike. The organization also plans to found an “adopt a trail” program in May. The person who adopts a trail “would be responsible for non-power tool maintenance of the train every one to two weeks,” per de Reyna.
