On May 18 at 11:30am, Westwood’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will hold a Community Visioning Workshop at the Thurston Middle School cafeteria. The Steering Committee aims to develop a vision and set of goals that describe Westwood’s desired future. To do so, the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee needs to find the common values that create this future.

Colloquially, the Town’s Comprehensive Plan might be thought of as a roadmap to the town’s future. The last Comprehensive Plan was completed in 2000. A Comprehensive Plan identifies what is good about a Town, and suggests ways for preserving and improving these features. It also identifies what could be improved, and what is missing from the Town. The purpose of updating Westwood’s Comprehensive Plan is to make Westwood an even better place to work, live, and play.

The Comprehensive Plan is a long-range land use policy document focusing on transportation, economic development, housing, natural and cultural resources, land use, community facilities, open space and recreation, town centers, and sustainability.

A survey was conducted over the past couple of months by the Committee, and the results of the survey may be viewed here.

The Community Visioning Workshop will begin with lunch and a brief presentation. This will be followed by facilitated small group discussion and results from the survey will be reviewed. The discussions will be structured to help the Committee articulate a vision and goals upon which to build an action plan for the future.

The event is free and open to everyone including residents, property owners, business owners, and employees of the community. The community workshop will be hosted by the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, in partnership with Community Circle and Barrett Planning Group.

The Community Visioning Workshop will be held at Thurston Middle School in the cafeteria at 850 High Street in Westwood. It will be on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 11:30 am and will conclude by 2:00 pm. Food will be available at 11:30am.
