Westwood Police Explorers Post Wins First Place

Group of Youths Won Annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Explorer Competition

Westwood’s Police Explorer Post won First Place in the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Explorer Competition on May 19. The group, led by Sgt. Sicard, Ofc. Hedberg, and Reserve Ofc. Cromack, completed multiple law enforcement related challenges to earn first place.

Westwood High Junior Hallie Dyer was a high school freshman when she began participating in the Police Explorers Program. “I heard about the Post from a presentation the advisors gave at the Middle School for all 8th graders at the end of the year in June 2015,” she recalled.

She said that their training was led by Ofc. Cromack. Ofc. Cromack is the party who is responsible for matching each Police Explorer’s skill set into the scenarios and positions where their talents will be best used.
“I have been in the Explorer Program for 3 years and have gone to 3 of the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Explorer Competitions. ... The only thing I can think of for people to know about the Post is that it is about a lot more than just police work. While we do focus on procedures and getting hands-on experience, we also talk about current events, discuss the laws and how they can be applied, and having intellectual conversations about anything that can relate to the course material that we are focusing on. This group is an extraordinary experience for anyone who is interested in law enforcement, or just interested in learning something new and meeting new people with the same interests,” Dyer praised the Post.
