Westwood Public Library to Hold Free Screening Of "Get Out"
Massachusetts Psychological Association to Host Screening and Moderated Discussion

The Massachusetts Psychological Association (MPA)’s Committees for Ethnic Minority Affairs and Public Education will be hosting a screening of the Oscar-winning comedy/horror movie Get Out at 6:30pm on June 12. A moderated discussion will follow the movie.
Westwood resident Emily Mohr is the Public Education representative for MPA (MPA is the state division of the American Psychological Association (APA)). Mohr comments that “Public education is a bag task. It is my hope that Get Out stimulates discussion surrounding White privilege and racism.” Mohr also cited her work in Hanlon School’s Inclusive School as part of her Public Education actions. She emphasized that it is her duty to get psychological information to the public in her position.
Westwood is the first town in which the MPA is holding this screening of Get Out. The conversation after the movie will be facilitated. The hope is that people will speak solely from their own experience and use “I” a lot. These actions should lead to an interesting and positive conversation.

Get Out was written and directed by Jordan Peele, who won an Oscar for best screenplay for the movie. Get Out received an R (restricted) rating owing to “violence, bloody images, and language including sexual references.” The screening is for adults who are 18 and older; however, teenagers may attend with their parents. It will be held at the library’s main branch in the community meeting room.
