Westwood Young Women's Club to Host Annual Touch-a-Truck!

June 9th event at Westwood High School to benefit Dignity Matters

Westwood Young Women’s Club (WYWC) will be having their annual Touch-a-Truck event at Westwood High School from 10am-1pm on June 9 at Westwood High School. The entrance fee is $10 for one person (adult or child) or $20 per family. The charity which will benefit from this event is Wayland-based Dignity Matters.

Cars, trucks, and a helicopter will be at this event. Please note that for the sake of people with sensory issues, autistic people, and very young children, Touch-a-Truck will be “horn-free” from 10am-12pm. WYWC member Kathryn Morrell recalled that “the first year I attended, I was holding my infant in front of a truck, and when the horn went off, we both jumped.”

Other features of the Touch-a-Truck event include a trackless train, concessions (“More than last year,“ noted Morrrell), and a professional face painter who also offers glitter tattoos. “It’s a great community event,” says Morell.

WYWC’s involvement with Dignity Matter has been going on for about one year, beginning with donation boxes throughout Westwood. They provide pads, tampons, bras, and underwear to homeless women and others who may not be able to afford them. Dignity Matters also states that one of its long-term goals is to make free menstrual pads and tampons readily available in public bathrooms to people who menstruate. Laurie Bean, a member of WYWC, has become very involved with them, so it is like likely that WYWC will continue its involvement with Dignity Matters.

Sponsors for this event include Roche Bros Supermarkets, Century 21 Commonwealth, The Bulfinch Group, Dental Arts of Westwood, and Mass Sport and Spine.
