WHS' Fall 2020 Play To Be "Romeo & Juliet"
WHS students will brush up on their Shakespeare over the summer as Mr. Howard plans the show.

Westwood High School Drama teacher and Fall play director Jim Howard announced via WestwoodStage on Monday that the Fall 2020 play will be William Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet." This will be the fifth of the Bard of Stratford-on-Avon's plays that Howard will have directed during his tenure at WHS.
"A question that keeps mucking around in my head is, why do a tragedy during trying times? Well, I love tragedies (surprising to no one.) Tragedies remind us of all the good in our lives. I can think of no better time to stop and be thankful for everything that is going well, even during these difficult days," Howard said in a statement on WestwoodStage. He noted that he did not have a "big C concept" for the performance yet, but teased at playing with the time period in which it is set and gender.
Howard recommends that students who play on auditioning for "Romeo & Juliet" read and watch Shakespeare over the summer. Both Hoopla and Overdrive have the play to borrow, as well as video adaptations. Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo+Juliet" is one of the most faithful adaptations to the play.
