“The residents of Westwood supported me and my family when my wife Noreen passed away from breast cancer. It is now my turn to give back to this great community, which is why today I am announcing my candidacy for Westwood Select Board.” McLaughlin said.
McLaughlin has three children, all of whom attended Westwood Public Schools: Shannon, Billy and Emily. “It is all about them,” McLaughlin stated. “The future of Westwood is our children. I have served for 29 years in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and have risen to the rank of Lieutenant. I now want to serve my fellow residents of Westwood.”

McLaughlin has been consistently active in all-things Westwood - coaching youth sports is one highlight of a myriad other Westwood initiatives to which he has donated his time. McLaughlin also serves on the Ride 22 Committee, which works to prevent suicide in veterans and first responders.
As a member of the Select Board, McLaughlin cited the following priorities:
- “We must spend our tax dollars wisely. Spending has increased at twice the rate of inflation over the past 8 years. As a member of the Select Board I am committed to spend residents tax dollars as if it is my own money.”
- “Many of our seniors, who made this community great, are being forced out due to burgeoning housing costs and lack of available housing units. I will work tirelessly for affordable, age-restricted housing.”
- “It is important that our Select Board is impartial and transparent. I am pledging to not take any donations from developers and call on the other Select Board candidates to do the same. I will put residents first and I am committed to having regular office hours where residents can meet with me.”
Bill finished. “I am looking forward to meeting residents and listening to your concerns over the next few months. I can be reached at 781-492-6617 and I am happy to do a safe, social distanced in-person meeting.”
