$500,000 Liberace Piano Escapes Damage After Snow Causes Roof Collapse

A piano studded with more than 80,000 rhinestones narrowly escaped damage after a Rockland music store roof collapsed under the snow.

Liberace may be more well known for his extravagant and glitzy costumes than his incredible piano skills, but clothes weren’t the only thing the famous pianist dressed up.

Many of his pianos were extravagantly decked out as well, including a piano studded with 88,888 rhinestones that found a new home with Rockland music store The Piano Mill in 2011.

That piano, worth $500,000, narrowly escaped damage after The Piano Mill’s roof caved in under the weight of snow Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Rockland got 29 inches of snow Monday during the third storm in the current Massachusetts snow crises, according to the National Weather Service.

While most of it ended up on the ground, enough snow was caught by roofs in Massachusetts to cause damage across the state. A roughly 100 by 100 foot section of The Piano Mill’s roof caved in Tuesday morning, according to the Daily Courier.

Luckily, Liberace’s piano wasn’t sitting under the section of roof that fell. A dozen other pianos were, however, and have been damaged extensively.
