Amazon's Interest In Boston Is Good For Weymouth: Mayor

Mayor Robert Hedlund said the online retailer's interest in buying Seaport real estate is a good sign for the Union Point bid for HQ2

WEYMOUTH, MA — Amazon is the market for a million square feet of office space in the Seaport, and that's good news for the Union Point bid for the company's second headquarters, according to Weymouth's mayor.

Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund believes the news is a sign that Amazon is looking in the northeast, telling the Weymouth News, "I had a conversation with a source earlier in the week and he told me that this bodes well for the proposal we submitted."

The bid sent to Amazon states that, "Union Point is a 1,500-acre Smart City located 12 miles from downtown Boston that is pad-ready and zoned for 10 million square feet of commercial development and 4,000 residential units. With an on-site commuter rail station and unparalleled site plan approval timing (30 days), Union Point provides an affordable, sustainable, and technology-focused urban environment that meets and exceeds 100% of Amazon's HQ2 requirements."
