WEYMOUTH, MA — Weymouth has closed all offices except for essential staff, has canceled all non-essential meetings and programs, and has taken steps to provide a lunch program while schools are closed, as part of a state of emergency declared in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The additional measures were announced Monday to go along with the emergency declaration from Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund issued on Friday.

The state of emergency extends and builds on many of the directives included in the emergency declaration.

Building closures include town hall, the McCulloch Building/Senior Center, the Department of Public Works Building, teen center and all public libraries. Access will be limited to staff only. The town said is an announcement: "Essential services will continue, but are subject to change as circumstances change."

Residents are encouraged to use online resources for services. All in-person visits must be made by appointment with a drop box available outside of town hall for payment of bills. Staff will be available by phone and email in all departments during regular business hours to
provide information and answer questions.

General questions about ongoing operations should be directed to the Mayor's Office.

All future events and meetings in town buildings and properties will be postponed until further notice. The Governor's executive order suspended portions of the Open Meeting Law to allow for remote participation for boards and committees. Weymouth is actively working to provide boards, committees and residents with remote capability that allows for participation and will provide information on how to access future meetings when it becomes available.

Student meals will be available for pick up between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Seach Primary School and Abigail Adams Middle School. Each student meal will consist of a bagged lunch each day. This program will be available each week day, beginning Tuesday, during this closure. Residents with questions are asked to contact the Superintendent's Office at 781-335-1460.
