Coronavirus: Weymouth Extends Tax Payment Due Dates

Town property, excise, water and sewer bills due in March, April and May are now due June 1 in Weymouth.

WEYMOUTH, MA —Weymouth has extended the deadline to pay town taxes and bills until June 1 in hopes of helping to ease the burden of the new coronavirus health emergency. Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund announced the extensions on Monday.

Under the authority given to towns to extend due dates for real estate and personal property tax payments and applications for exemptions, and to waive interest on certain municipal tax and other bills.

Fourth quarter real estate taxes due on May 1 are now due on June 1.

Motor vehicle excise taxes due on March 10 are now due on June 1.

Water and sewer bills due on March 10 or later are now due on June 1, regardless of the date printed on the bill.

The due date of property tax personal exemption and tax deferral applications has been pushed from April 1 to June 1.

All late payments fees and other penalties will be waived until July 1 for any late payment of real estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise tax, and water and sewer utility bill with a due date of March 10 or later. Payments made through June 30 will accrue no interest. Payments made after June 30 will carry an interest payment that starts accruing as of June 1.

Weymouth taxpayers are encouraged to use the town's online payment option to pay real estate, personal property, excise taxes, and water/sewer bills. As previously announced, Mayor Hedlund has waived the online convenience fee (which is charged by the vendor, not the town) for credit card payments.

A link to pay bills online can be found on the Town of Weymouth's website home page https://www.weymouth.ma.us/ by selecting "Pay a Bill." Payments can also be made by mail or by using the outside payment box at town hall. Do not mail cash. Checks can be made payable and mailed to: Town of Weymouth P.O. BOX 9257 Chelsea, MA 02150-9257.
