Despite More Snow than Expected, Weymouth Avoids Worst of the Storm

WEYMOUTH, MA - It may not have been the storm-like conditions that hit Washington D.C. and New York City, but Weymouth received more snow than originally expected.

As late as Thursday, the National Weather Service said that the area would only see about an inch of snow, but estimates increased through Friday and Saturday, with some projections pushing nine inches.

The snow was expected to taper off around midnight, before stopping at 2 a.m. according to the NWS. Several towns in Norfolk County will likely see 4-8 inches of snow.

Like other towns on the coast, Weymouth was at risk for high waves, with the NWS issuing a coastal flood advisory that expired at 1 a.m.

Several towns in Barnstable County received some of the highest numbers in Massachusetts, with West Harwich reporting 14.5 inches of snow Saturday night. Dennisport reportedly received 14 and 12.5 in West Yarmouth.

Roads in the area were hazardous and slippery due to the snow, with the NWS and Massachusetts State Police advising motorists to stay off the roads.
