Evacuations Forced At South Shore Hospital Cancer Center

South Shore Hospital said an air handler at the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center failed, causing smoke to spread.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A failed air handler at South Shore Hospital caused smoke to fill the building and forced an evacuation of the Dana-Farber/Brigham & Women's Center for Clinical Affiliation on Monday morning.

South Shore Hospital said patients and colleagues at the cancer center were all safely evacuated from the building, which remained closed on Monday afternoon.

South Shore Hospital said first responders and engineering services were assessing any damage to the facility on Monday afternoon, and it was expected to be closed much of the day. Patients with appointments on Monday were contacted to reschedule.

Those coming to South Shore Hospital to visit a patient on 55 Fog Road on Monday were asked to use the surface parking lots at Fogg Road and Route 18 with limited access to the parking garage.
