Family Displaced, Pet Missing Following Weymouth Fire

Weymouth firefighters responded to the Belmont St. blaze on Saturday afternoon.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Weymouth Fire Department responded to a bedroom fire at 177 Belmont St. Saturday afternoon that displaced one family and caused a pet to go missing.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call from the homeowner and quickly extinguished a fire in a bedroom at the rear of the house.

As a result of the fire, the bedroom and a connecting hallway are damaged and there is smoke and water damage throughout the home. The residents will be staying with friends until the home can be repaired.

Two pets were lost during the fire, but firefighters were able to save a dog who was hiding in the basement. A black kitten remains missing.

Braintree, Quincy, and Hingham Fire Departments assisted with station coverage while Weymouth Fire Department responded to the incident.
