Former Weymouth Firefighter Dies At Age 84

Retired Weymouth Firefighter Francis M. "Bucky" Rogers died peacefully on Christmas Day.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Former Weymouth Firefighter Francis M. "Bucky" Rogers, 85, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 25, says his obituary.

Rogers was educated in Hingham and entered the Army at age 17. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict and, after receiving an honorable discharge, transferred to the Air Force and served as an Airman First Class.

Following his service in the military, Rogers worked as a supervisor at Randy's Boat Shoe and later joined the Weymouth Fire Department, where he served the community for over 32 years.

"Bucky was a life member of the Weymouth Elks where he enjoyed playing cards and golf at Braintree Golf Course with his friends," says his obituary. "He also enjoyed the breakfast club with his fellow retired Weymouth Firefighters and daily drive to Nantucket Beach to feed the seagulls."

Rogers leaves behind three daughters and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Rogers (Madison).

Visitation will take place at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home in Weymouth on Saturday, Jan. 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. To prevent further spread of COVID-19, social distancing and mask-wearing will be required and limited number of visitors will be allowed in the funeral home at one time. Donations in memory of Rogers may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
