Local businesses are giving out free blue LED lights to remember and honor fallen Weymouth Officer Sgt. Michael Chesna
WEYMOUTH, MA — With the three-year anniversary of the death of Sgt. Michael Chesna approaching next month, local businesses around Weymouth are giving out free blue LED lights for residents to help show their support for local law enforcement.
Chesna, 42, responded to a call about vandalism near South Shore Hospital and was struck in the head and had his gun taken. He was then killed, along with Vera Adams, 77, a resident who was caught in the crossfire. The suspect, Emmanuel Lopes, 25, was charged with two counts of homicide.
Being held without bail by Norfolk County Correction authorities, Lopes has no trial date scheduled at this time.

Residents can help show their support by grabbing a free blue light from Park Ave Market-Ace Hardware, 46 Park Ave; Ma Reilly’s Café, 90 Pond St. and Everyday Café, 374 Bridget St. during business hours, according to an article from Wickedlocal.com.
