Route 18 In Weymouth Fully Reopens After Gas Main Leak
Route 18 near Derby Street in Weymouth had traffic restrictions for nearly 24 hours after area businesses and resident smelled gas Thursday.

WEYMOUTH, MA — Route 18 in Weymouth was fully back open on Friday afternoon nearly 24 hours after local business and residents in the area of Derby Street reported smelling natural gas. The road was completely closed for about nine hours on Thursday with crews working overnight to repair the leak.
The road was fully reopened about noon on Friday, according to Plymouth County Mutual Aid.
Reports of a smell of natural gas in the air began coming into Weymouth police on Thursday. When police investigated they found a contractor working in the area had hit a pipe and it ripped away from the gas main.

Route 18 was closed northbound at Pond Street — Route 58 —and Main Street well into Thursday night. Traffic was diverted north on Pond Street. Southbound traffic was closed at Main Street and Pond Street at Pleasant Street. Southbound traffic was diverted south on Pond Street.
