Self-Driving Cars Coming To Union Point

Optimus Ride has two four to six-passenger vehicles roaming the streets of Union Point.

WEYMOUTH, MA —Self-driving cars are coming to UnionPoint.

Optimus Ride has cut a deal with the developer of the former South Weymouth Naval Airbase. The Boston Globe reports that tests are being conducted with a pair of four to six-seat vehicles, with expectations of a pilot program beginning next year.

Optimus Ride is currently testing their driverless vehicles in South Boston. In that test, a driver and engineer stay in the vehicle for safety reasons. In the Weymouth tests, there will be a safety driver.
