South Shore Hospital In Weymouth Joins Drug Take-Back Day

The hospital encourages people to use its permanent medication drop box to safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs.

WEYMOUTH, MA — South Shore Hospital in Weymouth is partnering with several local police departments to support National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 24, said the hospital in a news release Monday.

South Shore Hospital has a permanent medication drop box at its 55 Fogg Road South Entrance that is open to the public at all times. The hospital encourages people to make use of its drop box or either of the permanent drop boxes at the Weymouth and Norwell Police Departments to safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications.

“We would like to encourage all patients, as well as their families and friends, to consider bringing their unused and unwanted medications to South Shore Hospital, Weymouth or Norwell Police Departments for appropriate disposal,” said Jason Tracy, MD, Chief of Emergency Medicine at South Shore Hospital, in a statement. “A prescription drop-off program allows people to safely dispose of medications—keeping harmful substances, especially dangerous narcotics, both out of the hands of those who could abuse them and out of our environment.”
