Weymouth Fire Department Offers Reward In Possible Church Arson

The foyer and doors of the Sacred Heart Church on Washington Street were burned sometime overnight Monday morning.

WEYMOUTH, MA — The Weymouth Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal are offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for a suspected arson at the Sacred Heart Church on Washington Street.

Weymouth fire said the fire damaged the door and foyer at the front of the church sometime between 11 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday morning. Church officials believe this may be related to a string of fires at Catholic churches around Boston in recent months, and that the fire may have started from a projectile thrown at the church.

The reward is for $5,000 for information that helps prevent or detect an arson fire. All information is kept confidential with the amount of the award determined by the extent of the information given.
