Weymouth Groundhog Tests Positive For Rabies
Weymouth police said a groundhog tested positive for rabies after being found Saturday on Middle Street after having contact with a person.
WEYMOUTH, MA — A groundhog that had contact with a person on Middle Street in Weymouth Saturday afternoon has tested positive for rabies.
Weymouth Animal Control said the groundhog, which is also referred to as a woodchuck, was tested Saturday with the results coming in on Tuesday. Animal Control advises that all pets should be vaccinated for rabies and that residents should keep an eye on pets while they are outside in that neighborhood.
Residents should not approach wildlife that is on their property and should report any wildlife that appears to be acting strangely to the Weymouth Police Department at 781-335-1212.
