Weymouth Police Ending Birthday Party Parades

Due to increased duties with the expiration of the state's stay-at-home order, police will no longer be able to accommodate parade requests.

WEYMOUTH, MA — For the past two months, Weymouth police have tried to brighten the days of youngsters missing out on a birthday party with due to the coronavirus health crisis with parades full of flashing lights and blaring sirens.

But, with the expiration of the state's stay-at-home order and more a resumption of many typical duties as the economy reopens, Weymouth police informed residents that they will no longer be able to fulfill those requests.

Weymouth police will wrap up party parades this weekend.

"The Weymouth Police Department will no longer be participating in the birthday drive-by parades, but we will honor the commitments we have made for the upcoming week," Weymouth police posted. "We were happy to participate and put a smile on people's faces."

Other towns, including neighboring Hingham, have made similar announcements about the parades in recent weeks due to expected increased traffic and general police calls with the resumption of activity across the region as coronavirus restrictions ease.
