Weymouth Principal Lauds Graduates' Success 'Against All Odds'
Weymouth High held a virtual graduation ceremony for 440 students due to the coronavirus health crisis.
WEYMOUTH, MA — Weymouth High principal Alan Strauss praised the class of 2020 for their achievement in graduating "against all odds" this spring amid the coronavirus health crisis.
The school held a virtual commencement for its 440 seniors on June 6 with hopes for an in-person celebration at a later date as coronavirus restrictions lessen.
Guest speakers included WHS alumni and Boston Bruins player Charlie Coyle, Weymouth natives and actors and directors Nate and Rob Coddry, and HGTV designer Tanya Nigel.

"Nothing could have prepared these students for the senior year they experienced, yet against all odds they still managed to graduate during a global health crisis," Strauss said. "This group of young adults are exceptional individuals who can face and conquer any adversity that may disrupt their future paths."
The virtual graduation included the names of each graduate being read and their picture shown during the presentation of diplomas.

WHS teachers presented a slide show for the seniors during the ceremony and a senior video,
created by senior class officer Erin Doyle, was shown as well.
Graduation addresses from the valedictorian, salutatorian, class presidents, Senior Dean, Superintendent Jennifer Curtis-Whipple and Strauss also occurred throughout the ceremony.
To commemorate the graduating Class of 2020, the Fore River Bridge in Weymouth was lit up in maroon and gold.
