Weymouth St. Patrick's Parade: Chesna Family Named Grand Marshal

The family of slain police officer Michael Chesna has been announced as the grand marshal for the town's inaugural parade.

WEYMOUTH, MA – The town has decided on a grand marshal for its first St. Patrick's Day Parade: the family of slain Weymouth police officer Michael Chesna. The parade will take place Sunday, March 24.

Chesna was shot and killed last summer while responding to a report of an erratic driver near South Shore Hospital. He was 42 years old.

Since his death, the community has rallied around Chesna's widow, Cindy, and their children, Olivia and Jack. Donations poured in from nearby residents and businesses, allowing the family to pay off the mortgage on their home.

"I just want to thank the community for everything they've done for my family and my children," Cindy Chesna said in August.

Police have charged 20-year-old Emanuel Lopes with Chesna's murder and the murder of a bystander, 77-year-old Vera Adams.
