Weymouth Tractor-Trailer Driver Involved In Route 24 Crash
The highway was shut down in Randolph Friday morning while a MedFlight arrived to transport another driver with life-threatening injuries.
RANDOLPH, MA — A Weymouth tractor-trailer driver was involved in a serious crash that caused life-threatening injures to an SUV driver and shut down Route 24 in Randolph during rush hour Friday morning.
Massachusetts State Police said a preliminary investigation shows a 1999 Ford Explorer traveling southbound clipped the front of the tractor-trailer as it changed lanes and rolled over in the infield between the highway and an exit ramp. The road was closed as the 62-year-old driver from Dorchester was flown via Boston MedFlight to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police are looking for any witnesses of the crash — including a man who provided first first aid at the scene — to contact them so they can gain more information about what led to the rollover shortly after 7 a.m.

Trooper Patrick Candeliere's preliminary report said five people were in the Explorer, including the Dorchester woman driving the SUV who had to be extricated from the SUV. The four passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to Boston Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital. They were a 65-year-old Mattapan woman, a 39-year-old Boston man, a 36-year-old Mattapan man and a 27-year-old Dorchester woman.
Police said the 34-year-old Weymouth man driving he tractor-trailer had no apparent injuries. The 2016 Volvo tractor is a leased vehicle owned by Ryder Truck Rental of Miami.

Police said an unidentified man rendered valuable emergency first aid to the driver of the SUV, but left when EMS personnel arrived. Police are looking to talk to the man for more information on the crash, and also to thank him for helping the injured driver.
Police ask that anyone driving through the Randolph area of Route 24 at that time of the crash call the State Police Milton Barracks at 627-698-5840.
The accident scene was cleared shortly before 9 a.m. as the road reopened following the MedFlight.
