Human Bones Unearthed At Winchester Home

Human bones were found buried in the yard of a Winchester home on Thursday afternoon.

Contractors were doing demolition work at a site on Dartmouth Street when they found the bones, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan's Office.

The DA's Office said there might be several skeletal remains and that they appear to have been buried for a long time, possibly over 100 years.

Malden Man Defrauded Elderly Woman Of $8,000: DA

A Malden man orchestrated a plot to steal $8,000 from an elderly woman by claiming her family member had been arrested, the Plymouth County District Attorney's office said. James Charles, 49, was charged with larceny over $1,200 by false pretense and larceny over $250 from a person over 60. He also faces two counts each of money laundering and conspiracy.

On April 16, the woman told Hanover police she received a call from a man claiming to be a family member in need of help. The man said he had been arrested in New Hampshire and turned the phone over to an "attorney," who requested $8,000 for bail. The woman followed the caller's instructions and turned the money over to a courier who arrived at her home, the DA's office said.

Burlington Company Accused Of Trying To Bribe N.H. Inspector

A Burlington construction company was fined over $77,000 in New Hampshire and was accused of attempting to bribe a state labor inspector.

The company, RPCL Construction, was fined for records violations at job sites in Salem and Londonderry, New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Business Review Reported.

The company's vice president, Rogelio Perez, offered the inspector $28,000 "to make this situation go away," according to the inspection report.

3 Reading Students, Staff Member Test Positive For COVID-19

Three students and one staff member in the Reading Public Schools recently tested positive for the coronavirus, Superintendent John Doherty said this week.

One student attended in-person classes at the Birch Meadow Elementary School, and another was in person at the Coolidge Middle School, according to Doherty. The third, a Reading Memorial High School student, was remote the last two weeks.

Through contact tracing, 11 students have been quarantined at Coolidge, and 12 students and one staff member have been quarantined at Birch Meadow, Doherty said.
