Josephine Maggiore Passes Away
Longtime Winchester resident worked for the Army Corps of Engineers during the Second World War.

Josephine G. (Contrino) Maggiore of Winchester, passed away on Sunday, May 13 at age 97, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is the beloved wife of the late Benedict Maggiore, daughter of the late Vincenza and Luigi Contrino, and sister of the late Carmela Fuca and her husband Joseph, and Mary Cipolla and her husband Anthony. Josephine is the cherished mother of Paul Maggiore, Janet Lang and Arlene Weeks and her husband Douglas. She is the absolute best grandmother in the world to Andrew, Matthew, Jacquelyn, Stephanie, Andrea, Mark, Kristina, Lauren, Corinne and Gillian, and great-grandmother to 10, soon to be 11. She also leaves behind three nieces and a nephew.
After graduating from high school, Josephine clerked at Roma Extract Company, her family's North End business. She also worked for the Army Corps of Engineers during the Second World War. When she married Benedict, the love of her life, in 1947, she dedicated herself to her family and various charity and fundraising activities. Josephine was devout, dignified and always humble—a strong woman who devoted many years to caring for her husband and mother as their health failed. Her greatest pleasures were baking for her grandchildren, travel, and time spent with her family.
