MA Weather Outlook: 6+ Inches Possible As Snowstorm More Likely

That didn't take long. Updated forecasts released Thursday morning are now warning of at least 4 inches of snow across Eastern Massachusetts Saturday night, with the high-end forecasts calling for as much as 6+ inches. Oh, and a hazardous weather outlook has already been issued in advance of the weekend.

Those new forecasts show a quick escalation from Wednesday's forecasts, which acknowledged the possibility of heavy snow but said it is far more likely we'll stay under 2 inches all weekend long, even as two storms threaten the region.

So here's where we stand now: While snow is still possible Friday night into Saturday, forecasters are honing in on Saturday night into Sunday. The National Weather Service expects about 2-4 inches across Eastern Mass. and less in Central Mass. It even said it's possible for the snow to bypass us altogether.

But the NWS also released a 'high-end' forecast for Saturday night, which shows more than 6 inches of snow falling across most of the eastern part of the state and a bit less farther west.

The NWS says travel could be messy this weekend as a result.

A hazardous weather outlook statement on the NWS website says, "Accumulating snow is possible across eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island Saturday and Saturday night, but impacts further back across the interior can not be ruled out if the storm ends up tracking further west."

It's still possible that the storm tracks east enough where any precipitation won't get farther than Cape Cod.
