Mario Marrocco Passes Away
Headed the men's discussion group at the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester for many years.

Mario A. Marrocco, beloved son of Ottavio and Milania Marrocco, died peacefully on June 29, surrounded by his family.
Mike was born in 1924. He attended Medford High School and graduated with a high school and vocational diploma. He entered Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) in 1944. He was actively involved in athletics and played varsity football, soccer, basketball and baseball. He graduated in 1946, received a two-year Certificate of Graduation and a commission as Ensign USNR. He earned a B.S. from MMA in 1953. Mike worked as a Project Engineer for Lawson Machine and as a Planning Supervisor for General Electric. He received his Professional Engineer status in 1967 and continued to work at General Electric for 35 years until his retirement as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for jet engine development.
Mike loved his community and his country. He held strong opinions and had a passion for talking politics. He was president of the MMA Alumni Association for many years. Mr. Marrocco’s reputation for intense devotion and loyalty to MMA is legendary. In recognition, the Academy award Mike an Honorary Doctorate Degree. He also headed the men’s discussion group at the Jenks Senior Center in Winchester for many years.

Mike will be sadly missed by Olga his wife of 68 years, his daughter Christine Morassi and her husband Edward Morassi, his daughter Marlene Marrocco and her wife Susan Maguire, his grandson Ted Morassi and his fiancé Danielle Calnan, his brothers Robert, Arnold and his sister Eda Pessinis as well as his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Ottavio and Alfred. Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service at the Lane Funeral Home in Winchester, MA on Tuesday, July 11, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be made to the Marrocco Family Scholarship Fund at Massachusetts Maritime Academy - 101 Academy Drive - Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
