Winchester's Mike Lynch to Leave Anchor Role
Longtime sportscaster known for his focus on high school athletes with High 5 segments.

WINCHESTER, MA. - Say the name Mike Lynch and the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox come to mind. But to generations of high school students across the state the name of the WCVB Channel 5 sports anchor will always mean High 5 and the spotlight Lynch shined on high school athletes.
Lynch, who lives in Winchester with his wife and three daughters, announced Thursday he will retire as the station's sports anchor in August. He will continue to work on special projects for the station, including his popular High 5 segment. As detailed in a WCVB release, Lynch began High 5 in 1985 and as it grew in popularity the station added High 5 Salutes Thanksgiving Heroes, a 30-minute show with Thanksgiving football highlights.
Lynch grew up in Swampscott and graduated from Harvard in 1977. He started at Channel 5 in 1982.
