Access low-cost spay/neuter and vet services for your pit bull

Second Chance Animal Services helps families to get their pit bulls and other pets fixed at an affordable price.

Pit bull and pit bull mixes are the most common dog found in shelters. This is due in large part to the misinformation about the breed and over breeding. Every pit fixed helps to make a difference to help curb overpopulation! Second Chance Animal Services is helping this breed by helping to spay/neuter pit bulls at an affordable cost of just $75.

Why spay/neuter your pet?
Spaying/neutering our pets helps curb overpopulation that often leads to animal cruelty and abandonment. Research also shows spaying of female dogs and cats can help protect them from some serious health problems later in life such as uterine infections and breast cancer. Neutering your male pet can also lessen its risk of developing benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate gland) and testicular cancer.

The procedure has no effect on a pet’s intelligence or ability to learn, play, work or hunt. Some pets tend to be better behaved following surgical removal of their ovaries or testes, making them more desirable companions.

"We offer this program because pit bull type dogs are the largest population of homeless dogs in most shelters," said Sheryl Blancato of Second Chance Animal Services. "We do this to help keep these dogs in their homes and prevent overpopulation. This program is funded in part by a grant from the "I'm Friendly" license plate program of the Mass. Animal Coalition. We discount our already low cost spay/neuter for these dogs because it is important to us to help this targeted group of dogs."

Second Chance also offers low-cost spay neuter and veterinary services for cats as well as dogs of other breeds. Visit their website for locations and more details.
