WORCESTER, MA — With a heat advisory in effect in Worcester, residents looking to cool off has one less swimming option this week.

On Friday, the city closed the outdoor pool at Crompton Park due to a vandalism incident. The parks department had to drain and refill the pool, and is performing chemical tests, but officials did not specify what was done to the pool.

The Crompton Park pool was originally set to reopen Wednesday, but that was pushed back until Thursday due to ongoing cleanup, city officials said.

Although not related, the closure coincides with officials shutting down Bell Pond Beach after a lifeguard was stabbed there on July 4. Bell Pond is closed because the city does not have lifeguards available to monitor it.

Worcester's other sanctioned beaches at Indian Lake, Coes Pond and Shore Park are open, as are the spray parks at Cristoforo Colombo and Greenwood parks.
